LASER FACIAL REJUVINATION
Laser Facial Rejuvenation known famously as “the lunchtime facial” is a big favorite for many women on the go in the Boston area as well as Hollywood Celebrities. This nonablative laser tightens the skin without pain, downtime or injury to the skin. The Candela Laser Facial heats up the deeper core layers of the skin and brings imperfections to the surface to lessen or remove them. Most importantly, it also promotes collagen production.
Depending on your skin, 3-5 treatments are recommended for best results and they are typically spaced a month apart. Our non-ablative laser does not injure the skin’s surface as the ablative CO2 lasers do. The good thing is that there is no downtime, no pain and no need for special facial creams or ointments.
Improving facial skin laxity is a function not only of heat-dependent micro injury, but also of thermally induced collagen contraction. Skin tightening appears to require a greater and deeper heat delivery into the skin versus wrinkle treatments.
Because of the deeper depths of energy absorption within the skin and its underlying structure, not all wrinkle reduction devices can benefit us with skin tightening and lifting.
They are very similiar, the laser facial uses a long-pulsed dye laser (LPDL) versus an intense pulsed light (IPL) for the photo facial. Both are lasers but the LPDL is stronger and goes deeper into the skin producing better long term results.
Independent studies have found that patients preferred the LPDL rejuvenation advantageous to IPL due to superior vessel clearance, less pain and fewer treatments required.
We at Fresh Start use a LPDL.
Can you laser-away the years? I want to talk to you about the use of lasers for wrinkles, fine lines and skin imperfections.
We all know what I mean when I say wrinkles and fine lines, but when I say skin imperfections, I mean the dark spots (due to hormones and sun damage): unwanted freckles, acne scars, large pores, broken capillaries, scars and even facial hair. The promotion of collagen growth, diminishes fine lines, wrinkles and gives the skin a fine glow.
The earliest observations of noninvasive skin tightening and lifting depended on radiofrequency (RF), and this was thought to be the only way to deliver energy through the skin to the collagen substructure. Technologies, many developed here in the Boston area, such as lasers, were mistakenly thought to be incapable of delivering sufficient energies deep enough into the skin.
However, the longer pulsed 1064 nm laser with dynamic cooling has now been shown to give the same tightening, if not even a better response of lifting and tightening of the skin, than even the best radiofrequency-performed procedure, with even less risk of adverse effects than the older radiofrequency-based procedure. The 1064 nm, variable pulsed Nd:YAG laser is a “workhorse” for laser medicine and used widely in the Boston area.
“I was impressed by the immediate improvement in my wrinkles! The “before” and “after” photos told the story. I am definitely going back.” Jane from Lynnfield -7/9/13
You will enjoy a more even complexion and texture, and appear more youthful. You can have a laser facial at lunch, put makeup on immediately after, and continue on with your day.
The degree of improvement is gradual and persistent over a three to five treatment protocol. The results of laser facials persist months after the last procedure, due to the prolonged collagen production.
Nonablative lasers. Nonablative lasers focus on heating up the deeper layers of the skin while leaving the surface untouched. It seems to be the most popular these days because it does not injure the skin’s surface. It targets the imperfections and brings them up to the surface to lessen or remove them. It also promotes the growth of collagen which diminishes fine lines and wrinkles and gives the skin a fine glow. The treatment is painless to most, has no downtime nor require special creams. Depending on your skin 3-5 treatments are recommended for best results. We are Fresh Start use nonablative lasers.
Ablative lasers. The traditional ablative laser functions to literally burn all the skin off the face, from the top down. In this way the skin is completely exfoliated, removing the blemishes and fine lines, in addition to heating the deeper layers of the skin, resulting in long-term tightening. The problems with these treatments are the painful recovery and the potential for color changes to the skin. The results from these treatments are very good in most cases, however, one must be fully aware of the downtime and painful recovery.
For optimum results a series of 3-5 treatments is recommended.
